This rear extension combines the living, kitchen and dining areas to create a large family friendly living area. The design began with a simple concept of a timber roof supported on a masonry base, part of which forms a fireplace. Both the roof and fireplace are clearly defined and speak of the two elemental aspects of habitation - shelter (roof) and warmth (fireplace).

Parliament Hill - Rooftop Apartment
This project involved the provision of an additional floor to a top floor apartment adjacent to Hampstead Heath in London. Situated in a conservation area the project required consultation with neighbours and careful negotiation with Camden Council Planning to create a sensitive but modern design. I undertook initial feasibility studies which were followed by outline and finally construction detail information. The project has now been completed.

Weston Road, Strood - House Extension
This was a project involved the extension and refurbishment of an existing bungalow in Strood, Kent. The building occupies the end plot on a Victorian terraced street and so it was felt there was an opportunity to express the end in an innovative way. The design plays with the brick form, subtly shifting parts in or out to express key features, such as an overhang to announce and provide shelter at the entrance. The master bedroom roof has been raised creating visual interest to the roof and expressing it as more important than the others. My involvement in the project was for a feasibility and options study only.

Govan, Glasgow - Construction Trades College
This is my final year thesis project - a construction college, located in the heart of Glasgow’s shipbuilding area, with the intention of kick starting the regeneration of the surrounding area.
A service core ‘wall’ running the length of the building separates the public front, where passing pedestrians can view ever changing student work in progress, from the rear where workshops and classrooms are located. A metal skin defines these spaces as it protrudes from and interacts with the ‘strong’ concrete core wall.

Malone Road, Belfast - Primary School
These are images from a student project, completed whilst at Queens University in Belfast.
Located in a residential suburb of Belfast this school is designed to encourage interaction between pupils.
Conceptually it can be seen as a ‘roof’ resting on and interacting with a ‘landscape’ of banks and slopes. The raised parts of the roof define various internal spaces. The assembly hall is a special place in the school, so it is slightly higher than the rest and the only part of the roof that can be occupied.
